Open the rear door. On the inside of the door frame their are 2 torx (looks like a star) screws, a T-15 is the size I believe. One to the top of the light cover and one to the bottom.I need to know how to change the rear bulbs(tail lights) in a 99 Chevy Tahoe.?
going from memory there should be hex head screws on the outside of the lamp. One on the top one on the bottom. Take those out and pull the lamp right out. At least that is how the pickups are in those years.

Audi A4 1996 Tail Lights??
This sounds like a stupid question but I can't figure out how to change my Tail Light on my 1996 Audi A4. I can pull the %26quot;Lighting Cluster%26quot; off but that only gives me access to the Brake, Blinker, Reverse and Fog Light. there are two wires going from the Cluster to the light assembly that goes to the Tail Light. The only problem is you can't get to the light from the backside and I can't pull the Tail light / assembly out the little hole it is stuck in. I took the whole Light assembly out but the light assembly can't be seperated from the back part of it which is plastic and has some kind of Adhesive sealing the two. Any Ideas on how to change the Bulb? Its very frustrated because I have a %26quot;Haynes Manual%26quot; and the Owners manual and it doesn't show these tail lights it shows the Brake and Tail light as the same bulb. HELP ME PLEASE!!!! My inspection is coming up!!!!!Audi A4 1996 Tail Lights??

If you open the back door you will see on the light fixture two plastic plugs about the size of a quarter. Remove them and you will see one screw in each. I think they are 10mm (socket size). After you remove the screws you can grab the whole light fixture and rock it back and forth until it comes out. You'll see all the wires mounted to the back of the fixture. Replace the bulb that is out turning the holder connected to the burned out bulb. Good luck.

You'll see 4 or 5 nuts on studs. Remove the nuts.
The light will now drop out of the metal housing.
Replace bulb like you would on any other car.

It's easier said than done, simply get in your Jeep, start it up and drive it over to your local mechanics garage and pay him to change the oil and replace the bulb.
Then you can run around and tell your friends you just changed your oil and replaced the light for under $30.00 and the best part about it was you never even got dirty doing it.
Remember this: If you take your car to like any shop and they forget to tighten the drain plug and after you leave and you're driving down the street the oil leaks out and the engine locks up. Guess who's paying for the repairs? Not you, but that shop is.

I have a 2003, and changed it myself, the 2005 model is different, but not by much. It is in the trunk. Directly behind the taillight there should be a hand twistable plastic bolt to take off holding the carpet to the back of the taillight backing, then a philips screw driver can remove the light, it pops off completely from the outside. You can get the replacement bulbs at Walmart, it was pretty easy for me, and I am not good at this stuff.Anyone know how to go about changing the tail/brake light in rear of nissan altima 2005?

If it is anything like my 2000 Grand Caravan, you open the rear liftgate and look at the taillight assembly. There should be two phillips head screws. Remove those and rotate the lens out and away from the inside of the van. I have a 2002 Dodge Stratus, four door.
FIRST:
The front right headlight is out and I can't figure out how to replace that. Should the whole thing just pop out like the tail lights?
SECOND:
The dome light is also out. Seems like this should be a simple fix, but I can't get that cover off and I don't want to break it. Should it just pop out, or is there a special way to take the cover off?

For the headlamp, open the hood and you will find 2 headlamp retaining screws which go down through the headlamp assy from the top. They are long screws with a small 8mm head. Once they are out pull the headlamp assy straight out the front of the car and change the bulb from the back.
The dome lamp cover does just pop off. It can be a little tight. use a small flat blade screwdriver to get under the edge and pop it off.

the headlight, is the cover broke or just the bulb took a dump? if the bulb went out, you can open the hood and reach behind the light and unscrew it out, snap it off and the reverse for putting it back in.
the cover can be unbolted,unscrewed from the behind.
the dome light, its a simple pop off. try checking the fuse first.

The problem started out with not having tail lights and interior dash lights. The head lights were still working. The brake lights still work. I was told by an experienced mechanic of many years that the problem could be the head light switch. Any ideas anyone? Those don't have the release buttons on the back of the switch. The knobs are held on by a triangular spring clip. Look around the rear of the knob and you should see a small cu-out area. Use a hooked tool to release the clip while pulling off the knob. The ALLDATA instructions for the rest of the job is below. Look real hard at the wiring connections for any signs of overheating or melted plastic. You may need to replace the connector.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
Remove knobs from headlight switch, windshield wiper switch and fog light switch (if equipped). Use a suitable hook tool to release each knob lock tab.
Remove steering column shroud, then the cluster finish panel assembly, Fig. 6.
Remove switch attaching nut, Fig. 6.
Disconnect electrical connector from switch and remove switch from vehicle.

hey it aint bad, just watch the pull knob, it has a release on the backside and if you hose it or strip the plastic, it'll rattle and never stay on. i think you just push the wedge in and pull the knob off. when you have it off, ive always rebent the keeper so it would grip tight. its not fun with your head under the dash. if you drop the 4 bolts on the steering column, you can move it sideways. then id pull the seat, and lay on my back. this is how i got the pawl and quadrant down to 2 hrs for a 5.0.How hard is it to change out a head light switch in a%26039;89 Ford truck.?
Yes it is definatley your headlight switch. If your head light switch is mounted on your dash......no problem a quick 15-20 minute job whick I think you have. If you have your light switch on the steering column with a lever like a turn signal. Your looking at about an hours work with the correct special tools. Fords are the worst piece of crap vehicles ever. I had a headlight problem on an 86 Mustang and an 89 Aerostar. Two friends of mine had a similar problem on a Thunderbird and on an Escort.
I replaced the switch on the Mustang and the wiring harness on the Aerostar. I'm not a mechanic and I don't know much about cars, but I looked over the situation and did both jobs myself. The wiring harness would have been a very expensive job had it not been for my being able to find one at a junkyard. Its Pretty easy... you need to get to where you can place your hand behind the dash where the switch is located on the switch there is a spring loaded button...
depressing it while gently pushing back and forth slighlty on the knob (sometimes rotating the knob like you're turnin op or down the lights also will disengage it try both one will work)
you pull to turn the lights on should cause this knob with the actuator rod attached to pull loose from the switch...
next at the location the rod came out of there is a collar (usually Chromed) with 3 -4 notches in it this must be rotated counter clock wise about 6 turns or so until the switch comes free from the dash..
now unplug old switch from harness and plug in the new one... Place new switch upto the hole start the collar (retainer) by rotating it clockwise this time...
be sure to align up the locator notch in dash with the locator tab on switch now tighten collar until tight....
take actuator rod and place into the hole and push straight forward till you feel it start to bottom then push just a little more ...
you should feel and hear a slight click as the retainer sets on the grooved area at the tip of the rod...
try pulling the knob out to see if lights work... Lights work!!

If you let the tail gate down, look through where it latches. One screw will be there and the other is about 4 inches below it. Once they are out, you can pull the tail light assembly out and change the bulb.

The muffler bearing is located right beside the hognozer gear. To replace it you have to use a bearing stretcher to get it off the wiggling pin. (The wiggling pin connects to the wobbling box)
The tail light fluid is the same basically as the headlamp fluid. You just need to be extra careful to not get the halogen fluid because it will melt the lenses.
The biggest problem I ever experienced was rotating and balancing the air in the tires. Seems when it went through my air recyclers it got so thin that it just wouldn't stay in the tires. Also I wasn't aware that you had to rotate the valve stem caps when you rotated the and balanced the air in the tires.Anybody know how ta fix a loose muffler bearing?
You have to remove the flux capacitors to get at them. While you have the exhaust system down, you might as well go into the engine and upgrade the piston return springs.

I popped out the 5/16 bolts and can see two white tabs holding onto the light. I tried prying with a screwdriver but they don't move. If you opened the tailgate and unscrewed (popped???) the two silver torx head screws, then you need to grab it and (pop) it out. Use something plastic with a rag under it to pry against the tail light and bed side.

Check your owner's manual. We just did my wife's 2008, and there was a diagram in the manual that showed how to pull this off (Yours may be different).
On the 2008, with the tailgate opened, there are three narrow slots between the black plastic cowl inside the door jamb and the actual tail light assembly. You put a blade screwdriver in each of these, one at a time, %26quot;with a piece of electrical tape on it to prevent scratching,%26quot; and gently pry the cowl off. This exposes some screws that you remove to release the tail light assembly from the car. Once that's done you can see where you twist the plastic bulb holder to release it from the light assembly. I have a 97 Ford Explorer. Both tail lights need to be replaced. I went to the wrecking yard. They had two 95's, one 96, one 97 (these models have the same style tail light), all of which had no tail lights. The closest I could find were those of a 94. From 94 to 95 the tail light changed very slightly. It went from a straight edge (where the side panel meets the light) to a slightly rounded edge. The bolting pattern is the same. The height is the same. The width varies due to the curved edge. When the 94 is installed there is a slight gap where the %26quot;curve%26quot; should be. I wonder, to what extent, if any, will this affect the vehicle or the lamp itself. My main concern is water getting into the housing causing shorting or into the exterior frame of the vehicle causing corrosion. How valid are these concerns? What are the other issues I should consider?

Drill out the broken lock that your key turns...
make sure you don't damage trunk lid
Once you remove the key lock you will notice a rod that goes from the key lock to the truck latch.
Use a long (small tipped) flat head screw driver to turn the latch lock.
You will be able to open and close trunk now
You will also be able to replace the lock cylinder once you have the trunk open...

Get real close to the outside of the trunk lid and yell REAL loud at the guy locked in there to open the lid from the inside.

Use a long (small tipped) flat head screw driver to turn the latch lock.

How do you change a tail light in a 2005 chevy malibu. I can't figure out how to get to it?
Inside the trunk, where the lamp is located, there are a couple of thumbscrews that hold the trunk liner in place. Remove them and pull the liner away to reveal the back of the taillight. On the light socket there may be a lock tab which will have to be depressed before the socket can be twisted out. Once removed from the lens assembly you will see the bulb in its socket. A small flat blade screwdriver may be required to remove the bulb from the socket. Gently pry out the bulb at the plastic base only. DO NOT PRY ON THE GLASS!!! Make sure you replace the bulb with the same type and wattage. The GE number will be marked on the plastic base of the bulb. i.e. 4157, 3157, etc.
Install the new bulb and check to see if it works before reinstalling everything.
Assembly is the reverse of the above.

To better help you; take it to the GM dealership (or any for that matter) and they will replace the tail light under warranty. GM will replace anything (except wiper blades) for 3 years or 36,000 miles bumper to bumper.

Look in the owners manual. I've changed one before and it was so easy. All the bulbs for the tail lights are together.
You have to depress on 2 spring clips on either side of the bulb holder and pull all the bulbs out. Be careful to pull out straight because you can break all the other bulbs.
Press down on the bulb and turn to remove it. That's it replace the bulb and push back the bulb holder.
Easy.

When I use the left turn signal, I get a rapid flash. The front signal works, but tha rear and left rear brake light does not. I went to Pep Boys and bought replacement bulbs, but the heck if I can figure out how to get the lense cover off so I can replace the blown bulb.

Most of the bulbs will be a 1/4 turn counter clockwise to remove from their housing and the bulb may be a straight pull from it's socket.

In that case just go in and pull back the matting on the back wall, follow the wires to the light. The wires should lead to a piece of plastic that attaches to the actual tail light. Just turn the plastic piece and the light bulb should just slide out. Pull the light out (they dont screw in) and replace it. How do I change the tail light on a 2005 Chevy Cobalt LT?
The 2005 Chevy Cobalt LT has a single, triangular tail lamp assembly on each rear corner of the vehicle. (Not the more common pair of circular lights on other models.)
Opening the trunk reveals two screws attaching the tail lamp assembly to the car. Removing the two screws allows the assembly to wiggle a little bit, but the assembly cannot be pulled away from the car to disconnect the wiring harness or access the bulbs.
The Pioneer sub woofer limits how far I can pull the trunk carpet wall back, but I have felt for any other retention clips, screws, or wire harnesses. I cannot find anything else to disconnect.
I have gradually increased my pulling force with no success. I have tried sliding the assembly in different directions to un-lock any slide-and-lock style retainers with no success. How to change tail light in 1995 Ford Taurus?
Hello, I pulled the trunk cover out of the way, and saw two areas in the inside of the trunk where it looked like the lights would pull out. I twisted and pulled a little on these black fixtures, but the fixtures weren't coming out, and I was afraid to pull or twist too hard, because I thought I might break the fixture, not being certain of if I was doing it right.
In my previous car, it was easy to change the tail lights. The fixtures popped out easily.
Does anyone out there have a 1995 Ford Taurus or know the specifics of this particular auto so that I can change the tail light myself?

Working from inside the boot, there are 2 round plastic covers top and bottom where the light fitting are on the body. prise out the covers with a small screwdriver. you will then find little metal nuts that hold the light fitting in place. undo these nuts anti clockwise. they are usually only hand tight, however I have come across some that had to be undone with a 14mm socket or a pliers. Once thes nuts are removed, the whole light fitting can be pulled away from the body of the car. When you open the trunk you should see two screws. Remove them and the lamp assembly should come out. When you get it out twist and remove the bulb sockets from the housing and replace the bulb. Just a guess because I don't know what year it is.

Yes, pull the trunk liner back out of the way (just enough to get to it)... It's held in by a couple wing nuts, and maybe a little assembly glue. Just pull all the nuts, and pull... just don't get carried away and damage anything.

i'd try to open the trunk. there should be a couple screws in there. take them out and pull the tail-light away from the trunk. to take the burnt light out grab twist and pull.
